Help on Installing your New 4DTV DSR-922 digital receiver

last updated January 26, 2006

It is recomended that you follow your owners user guide when installing your 4DTV. This information should only be used in accordance with your users guide.

If your are replacing an existing IRD with a 4DTV, before disconnecting your old unit, position your dish on G9-24 this would be the(Outdoor channel). Disconnect your old unit then connect the 4DTV receiver. Refer to the installation guide for the correct locations of the Motor, Sensor, Polarizer Wires and LNB cables. After the Hardware is connected, connect power to the receiver and turn it on.

After plugging in the receiver, the display will briefly show two boxes and three 8's, followed by 'WM UP.' The warm up process may take a few moments before the receiver is ready to turn on. Programming satellites is performed through the use of the remote control, so insert the two supplied AA batteries into the remote.

After warm up, turn on the receiver. Press OPTIONS, 6, 4, then  Enter on remote. Select YES to allow dish movement for updates.

Select 'Change Dish Settings' through your remote (arrow keys or 2). Select either Linear West (customers east of the Mississippi River. ) or Linear East (customers west of the Mississippi River).

Select 'LNB Type.' Use the left/right arrow keys on the remote to scroll through the types of LNB’s to find the correct configuration, select standard for the feedhorn.

Press Go back on the remote

Press 3 (set Limits) to get to the east/west limits screen. Now you have a choice. If you are not knowledgable about satellite locations skip to next paragraph below. If you are knowledgeable and feel comfortable about satellite locations you can set your limits as you program the satellites by switching back and forth between the Program Satellite Screen and the Set Limits screen. Press 3 to get to the Program Satellites screen. Program satellites as you need. You should know what you are doing if you have selected this method. Be careful when setting the limits you could damage the dish, acuator, roof, ect. If in doubt call a dealer in your area to come do this for you.

Use the arrow keys on the remote control and position the yellow cursor over the G0 tile then press ENTER.

You are now shown the Satellite Adjustment screen. Because the 4DTV always puts you on channel 1 when you program a satellite you may want to change to a known channel of the satellite you intend to identify as the satellite you are on. You can do this by scrolling to it or entering the channel number.

This being G0 you could use channels 24 (OUTDOOR CHANNEL) or 15 Showtime as a target channel. If you are subscribed to Showtime and have already installed a VC module, you should get a picture, if not you will get a black screen and a pop-up message that will identify the channel as Showtime West or if on 24 you will see the OUTDOOR CHANNEL as it is in the clear. We will use channel 24 the outdoor channel for reference.

The Outdoor Channel should appear on TV screen. Adjust the dish position and the skew to improve the picture quality. Press 'Go Back' on the remote and save the dish position by Pressing ENTER

The menu displaying the satellite names will show G0 checked and highlighted.

Press ENTER to go to G0 again. Select channel 17. of opposite polarity and adjust the skew again to optimize quality. Do not go back to the original polarity. You should see CMTV on the screen if subscribed or a message saying you are not subscribed. If picture is not clear, adjust the dish position or skew to tune in the channel manually or use the "AutoPeak Dish" and "AutoPeak Skew". After adjustments have been made, select "Go Back" then ENTER to save the settings.

Press "Exit" on the remote to leave programming mode and turn to channel 13. A message should appear that says “Cannot find channel, continuing to search” and a green “DC” light should light up on the DSR-922.

Press Options, 6 (Change System Settings), 5 (Data Screen), ENTER on the remote control to display the Data screen. Let the unit sit for about 30 minutes to “map in” all the channels. The channel count number should begin increasing slowly from approx. 570 to approx. 4500. Once the channel count number stabilizes, all of the channels for the DSR-922 will be mapped.

once the mapping is complete call us at 1-605-247-3371 or 1-888-266-4460 to authorize your 4DTV.  We will need your UNIT ID to process the account information and to send a rehit to your system.

You can watch the trip counter by placing your system on G0-101 or G0-13 option 6,5 and on line 7 the first 4 digits are the trip counter. when they have increased 5 digits you have received your signal. The clock should be correct and the free digital channels should be on as well as any subscription channels will be activated.

To download the IPG (interactive programming guide) Press guide on your remote and hold down for approximately 15 seconds. Press info this will allow the guide to come in more quickly.

Once you have the guide you will be able to programming the rest of your satellites in by using this to locate more satellites and channels that are available.

Select Options, 6 (Change System Settings), 4 (Change Installation Settings), 3 (Set Limits) and begin setting the Western Limit. In order to prevent the dish from going off the ends of the actuator, it is best to be conservative when setting this limit. The limit will be different for each user, so increasing the limit west (right on arrow keys) 100 units or so is a safe increment. It is also a good idea to check the satellite dish at this time to insure that the dish is moving west as you set your limits.  Contact your local satellite dealer if you are not comfortable setting limits. Once the satellite limit has been reached, select 'Go Back.' Press Exit and the blue 'SAT' button to move the satellite back to G0.

Select Options, 6 (Change System Settings), 4 (Change Installation Settings), 3 (Set Limits), 3 (Program Satellites), Enter to program the next satellite. Select satellite G5, which is the satellite immediately to the west of G0. Select Channel 3 and move to the satellite position selection. Push the right arrow key to increase the 4 digit Dish Position until the free feed Trinity Broadcast Network appears. Tune in the channel by modifying the Satellite position and skew in order to obtain an optimal resolution. Select "Go Back" to save the channel.

Now you can program all of the satellites in one at a time by selecting Options, 6 (Change System Settings), 4 (Change Installation Settings), 3 (Set Limits) , 3 (Program Satellites) ,ENTER. If a message received that the limits have been reached, Press "Go Back" and Cancel to get back to the Set Limits screen. Increase your limits accordingly until you reach the western most satellite.

The DSR-922 should be able to predict the location of the remaining satellites. The Satellite Location Screen will provide a option to 'Move Dish to XXXX.' The accuracy of this option increases with the amount of satellites programmed and saved.

After finding W7 & storing in that last satellite, go to the SET LIMITS screen & program in the West Limit to be about 3 counts higher than W7 position.

Now, the satellites east of W0 can be programmed. Follow the same instructions for programming easterly satellites that were used for programming westerly satellites. Remember to set the East Limit as needed to include all the satellites that need to be programmed.

After storing the Satellite W9 into memory, go to the set Limits screen & set the East limit about 2 or 3 counts lower than W9’s position. This completes the installation of your DSR-922 digital receiver.
